Karen Richman, my advisor from college, has recently published a new book about how Haitian communities practice Vodou across national boundaries as a result of the immigration flow to the United States. Karen, an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Notre Dame who has worked with Haitians for over 20 years, is a master at de-mystifying and illuminating the practice of Haitian Vodou. Her book, Migration and Vodou, is both a beautiful story and a grounded analysis of an extended family from Léogane, not far from where I work. A review of the book is available at http://wings.buffalo.edu/ARD/cgi/showme.cgi?keycode=2801, and you can purchase it online at www.barnesandnoble.com.
